What Do We Do at LSW Engineers?
At LSW, we design the systems on the other side of the wall - the systems that make buildings a place you want to be.
That includes mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, often called MEP. You may not always see these systems, but they are a big part of how a building functions.
Mechanical Engineering
Heating, cooling, and ventilation systems that keep people comfortable.
Electrical Engineering
Power, lighting, and backup systems that keep buildings running.
Plumbing Engineering
Water, drainage, and piping systems that keep everything flowing properly.
From HVAC systems that keep spaces comfortable, to the power that keeps buildings running, to backup systems in places like hospitals where power cannot fail during a critical operation, to wastewater plumbing, these are the systems working behind the scenes.
You may not always see them, but they are essential to how a building functions.
We work closely with architects, contractors, and owners to design systems that fit each project and perform the way they are intended.
Our role is to create practical solutions that make buildings comfortable, functional, and safe for the people who use them every day.

Every project at LSW starts with people.
Designers and BIM operators develop drawings and layouts. Engineers review systems for safety, efficiency, and code compliance. We coordinate with architects and contractors to make sure everything works together and gets built the right way, whether it is an improvement to an existing municipal office building or the systems behind an entire terminal at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
As an intern, you are part of the building team.
You will work alongside designers, engineers, and support staff, let alone other firms in the industry, to contribute to real projects and see how everything comes together.
At LSW, your work will fall into one of two main markets:
Advanced Technology or Core.
Advanced Technology Market
Advanced Technology (AT) projects are some of the most complex and fast-paced work we do.
This includes semiconductor facilities, mission critical environments, and high performance manufacturing spaces. These projects require precise systems, continuous operation, and the ability to adapt quickly to changes.
You are working on large, highly detailed projects where performance matters at every level and timelines move quickly.
Core Markets
Core projects focus on the buildings people use every day.
This includes schools, hospitals, airports, civic buildings, and public safety facilities. These projects offer a wide range of building types and systems, with a strong connection to the communities they serve.
You will see how different systems come together across a variety of projects and gain a broad understanding of how buildings function.
What You'll Actually Do As An Intern
You won’t just observe. You’ll be part of the team.
Interns at LSW support real projects and learn how building systems come together from concept through construction.
Whether you are pursuing engineering, data, or business support roles like HR or communications, your work contributes to how projects move forward and how teams stay connected.
